Amara Raja Energy & Mobility is moving ahead with plans to provide lithium-ion storage solutions with a capacity of 2 gigawatt-hours (GWh) for the telecom sector. The company has already achieved a major milestone by completing the supply of 1 GWh solutions across 50,000 sites nationwide. According to the company, this marks significant progress in the lithium-ion solutions segment catering to UPS systems, data centres, and new energy storage applications.
Company Executive Director Vikram Gaurineni said the next target is to achieve 2 GWh capacity. He stated that a new unit will be established at the company’s Divitipalli factory in Telangana for manufacturing fully integrated packs and containers required for Energy Storage Systems (ESS). The company had earlier announced an investment of ₹9,500 crore over the next ten years for lithium-ion battery manufacturing and research facilities at this unit.
He further noted that it took nearly two to three years to cross the 1 GWh milestone, but the company now aims to double that figure and reach the 2 GWh mark within this year itself. The foundation stone for the new Telangana unit is expected to be laid next week, while production is likely to begin by the end of November this year.
