Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) is reportedly in talks to acquire a 63.88% stake in Associated British Ports (ABP), one of the United Kingdom's largest port operators. The deal is estimated to be worth $10 billion (around ₹95,000 crore), making it one of the biggest overseas investments by an Indian ports company if completed.
ABP operates 21 strategic ports across England, Scotland, and Wales, handling nearly 25% of the UK's maritime trade. The company manages major ports such as Immingham, the UK's largest cargo port, and Southampton, one of the country's busiest export hubs. Last year, ABP handled 425 million tonnes of cargo and generated £819.8 million in revenue.
The stake currently belongs to two Canadian pension funds, while other shares are held by investors from Singapore, Kuwait, and private equity firms. Although Adani Group has not officially confirmed the talks, APSEZ reported a 10.23% rise in quarterly net profit to ₹3,649 crore. Meanwhile, Adani Enterprises posted a ₹1,160.23 crore loss in the June quarter despite a sharp rise in revenue.
