Claude Users Raise Privacy Concerns

Users of Anthropic's Claude AI have raised renewed privacy concerns after publicly shared Artifacts were found to be indexed by Google Search. Reports indicate that while shared Claude conversations have mostly disappeared from search results, publicly shared documents, applications, spreadsheets, dashboards, and other AI-generated content remain searchable. The issue has sparked debate over how AI platforms handle publicly shared content and whether users fully understand that shareable links can make their information accessible through search engines.

Anthropic clarified that Claude conversations and Artifacts are private by default and only become publicly accessible when users intentionally generate a shareable link. The company said it does not submit chat directories or sitemaps to search engines, and that indexed pages typically appear only after shared links are posted on websites or social media platforms. However, reports also suggested that some publicly shared pages lacked recommended "noindex" metadata, potentially allowing search engines to index them. Users are advised to review the Shared Chats section in Claude's privacy settings and remove any unnecessary public links to protect sensitive information.
