Aman Sanger Gains Global Recognition With SpaceX Deal

Indian-origin entrepreneur Aman Sanger, 25, is one of the four co-founders of Anysphere, the company behind AI-powered coding platform Cursor. Raised in New York, Sanger began coding at 14 and later studied at MIT, where he met Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif and Arvid Lunnemark. He left MIT in 2022 to pursue Anysphere full-time, after internships at Google and Bridgewater Associates and running an AI consultancy. SpaceX agreed to acquire Anysphere in an all-stock transaction valued at an implied $60 billion, with the acquisition subsequently completed in August 2026.

Anysphere initially developed a tool based on Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code before evolving it into Cursor, an AI-first coding environment designed to work directly within developers’ workflows. Cursor can analyze codebases, assist with debugging and generate or modify code across multiple lines. The SpaceX acquisition has placed Sanger and his co-founders at the centre of one of the biggest deals involving an AI coding startup.
