Elena Rybakina has won the US Open 2026 women’s singles title after defeating two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the final. Sabalenka had entered the title clash with hopes of completing a hat-trick after winning the 2024 and 2025 editions. Rybakina, however, produced a strong comeback after losing the opening set 4-6, winning the second set 7-5.
Rybakina then took complete control of the deciding set and won 6-2 to secure her third Grand Slam title. The defeat proved particularly disappointing for Sabalenka, who reportedly smashed her racket in frustration and reacted angrily when a cameraman approached her. Rybakina also moved ahead of Sabalenka to claim the world No. 1 ranking, ending Sabalenka’s 99-week reign at the top. With this victory, Rybakina became the second women’s player after Steffi Graf in 1995 to defeat the world No. 1 in two Grand Slam finals in the same year.
