The FIFA World Cup 2026 has officially begun, with host nation Mexico making a strong start to its campaign. In the tournament's opening match at Mexico City Stadium, Mexico defeated South Africa 2-0 in a Group A encounter, delighting the home crowd with an impressive performance.
Mexico took control early in the game and opened the scoring in the ninth minute through Julian Quiñones, who continued his excellent form after emerging as a top scorer in the Saudi League. The hosts maintained their dominance throughout the match, and Raúl Jiménez added a second goal in the second half to seal a comfortable victory and earn Mexico its first three points of the tournament.
