Vijay Focuses on Tamil Nadu Bypolls.. TVK Takes a Key Decision

The electoral campaign has intensified in Tamil Nadu ahead of the October 6 by-elections in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies. Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has stepped up his party’s campaign efforts, with a focus on strengthening its booth-level organisation. He is scheduled to interact with party functionaries and provide guidance on grassroots campaigning, voter outreach and addressing local issues. Both constituencies are reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates, with polling scheduled for October 6 and counting on October 9.

The two seats were won by the AIADMK in the 2026 Assembly elections. The then MLAs, K. Maragatham Kumaravel of Madurantakam and P. Sathyabama of Dharapuram, resigned from the Assembly and joined the TVK, leading to the by-elections. TVK has again fielded Kumaravel from Madurantakam and Sathyabama from Dharapuram. The DMK has nominated I. Parandhaman and S. Suganya, while the AIADMK has fielded S. Kanitha Sampath and K. Banumathi respectively. The developments have resulted in a contest involving the three major parties in both constituencies.
