Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar, while speaking to national media, stated that government formation requires the support of at least 118 MLAs. He clarified that any party or leader, including Vijay, DMK, or AIADMK, must prove numerical strength to form the government. He also warned that allowing unclear combinations could lead to horse trading, and hence strict verification of numbers is essential.
He further added that if the required majority is proven through valid support letters, the oath-taking ceremony can be conducted immediately. Rajendra Arlekar also referred to past constitutional interpretations and said that in certain cases, a Chief Minister can be elected inside the Assembly itself, based on majority strength and legal guidelines.
