Voters in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu created history by turning out in unprecedented numbers, showcasing strong democratic participation. In West Bengal, polling was held across 152 constituencies in 16 districts, recording an impressive turnout of 92.72 percent, the highest ever in the state’s history. Despite political tensions between the BJP and Trinamool Congress, voting remained largely peaceful with only sporadic incidents of violence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the massive participation and praised the Election Commission for conducting smooth polls. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar also saluted voters for their enthusiasm.
In Tamil Nadu, polling across all 234 constituencies was conducted peacefully, registering a record turnout of 85.14 percent, surpassing previous election figures. Prominent leaders including Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and actor-politician Vijay exercised their franchise, along with celebrities like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. While minor clashes, allegations of bogus voting, and isolated disruptions were reported, polling largely remained orderly. Statements from leaders reflected political confidence, with Mamata Banerjee expressing optimism about victory and Modi calling the turnout a sign of change.
