The Congress Working Committee (CWC) is scheduled to meet in Delhi today under the leadership of party president Mallikarjun Kharge. The meeting is expected to discuss issues concerning the Election Commission, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the controversy surrounding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party is also likely to deliberate on its further course of action in response to reported differences within the poll panel.
The CWC may also discuss the roadmap proposed by the Congress for seeking Gyanesh Kumar’s removal from office. Kharge has already called for the CEC’s resignation. The meeting comes ahead of an INDIA bloc meeting scheduled for September 30, where opposition leaders are expected to discuss a coordinated response to the Election Commission-related issues. Reports indicate that the final decision on any removal or impeachment motion is yet to be taken.
