In a significant relief ahead of Ramadan, the Andhra Pradesh government has released ₹45 crore towards the honorarium of Imams and Muezzins across the state. Acting on the directions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the coalition government cleared pending dues of the last six months in one go. The announcement comes shortly after the Chief Minister assured support during an Iftar gathering, with funds being sanctioned within hours of the promise.
Around 10,000 Imams and Muezzins have directly received the payments in their bank accounts. Of the total amount, ₹30 crore has been allocated to 5,000 Imams, while ₹15 crore has been disbursed to 5,000 Muezzins as part of their six-month honorarium. The move has been widely welcomed as a gesture of support and goodwill during the holy month of Ramadan.
