In the Union Budget 2026–27, the central government has announced a major push towards modern rail infrastructure by developing high-speed rail corridors across the country. The objective is to enhance connectivity between major cities and provide faster, more efficient transportation.
As part of the plan, seven high-speed rail corridors will be developed. Four key routes have been outlined so far: Mumbai to Pune, Pune to Hyderabad, Hyderabad to Bengaluru, and Bengaluru to Chennai.
In addition to these routes, the government plans to introduce more corridors to further strengthen inter-city connectivity. These projects aim to reduce travel time, improve mobility, and support economic growth through advanced transport infrastructure.
