Telangana’s key highway project gets a major boost as legal hurdles are cleared for the widening of the Hyderabad–Bijapur National Highway (NH-163). The 46-km stretch between Moinabad and Chevella is all set for four-lane expansion, bringing an end to years of delays caused by environmental litigations. Earlier, environmental activists Pranav and Tej had filed a case with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) citing tree loss concerns, which halted the project. After detailed discussions with government officials, they have now withdrawn the petition following assurances that most trees will be preserved or relocated.
The government has planned to protect around 950 trees—150 will be replanted along the roadside, while others will be incorporated into the median design. Originally sanctioned with ₹920 crore during the previous administration, the project aims to improve connectivity and road safety along this busy corridor. Local MLAs Kalle Yadayya and Rammohan Reddy pushed the issue, leading to renewed progress. With work resuming, residents of Chevella, Vikarabad, Parigi, and Tandur can soon expect smoother travel and fewer road accidents.
