A significant development has taken place in Telangana as top Maoist leader Dev Ji alias Tirupati, along with 16 other Maoists, surrendered before the Telangana Special Intelligence Branch (SIB).
Dev Ji, who served as the General Secretary of the central Maoist party, and Politburo member Malla Rajireddy were among those who surrendered. Officials describe this as a major turning point in the Maoist movement.
In recent months, consecutive encounters and surrenders have reportedly weakened the organization’s presence. Authorities believe this marks a decisive phase in bringing an end to the armed struggle that has continued for over four decades.
Under Operation Kagar, several Maoists have been neutralized, and the Centre has reportedly set a deadline of March 31 to conclude the operation. Key leaders, including Hidma, have been killed in encounters, while others like Mallojula and Ashanna have recently surrendered. Security forces are continuing their search for Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar. Meanwhile, Ganapathi is said to be abroad due to health reasons.
The surrender of senior leaders is being seen as a major setback for the Maoist organization.
