A severe snowstorm has affected large parts of the United States, causing a major accident in Michigan. Near Hudsonville, close to Grand Rapids, more than 100 vehicles collided on an interstate highway on Tuesday morning (January 19). Dozens of people were injured, but fortunately, no deaths were reported.
According to Michigan State Police, heavy lake-effect snow from the Great Lakes covered the roads with ice. Strong winds reduced visibility, making it difficult for drivers to see vehicles ahead. As a result, cars and trucks slid on the icy surface and crashed into each other.
Stranded motorists were taken to a nearby high school for shelter and assistance. The highway was closed for several hours and reopened around 6 PM. Meanwhile, snowstorms and extreme cold continue across many states, from northern Minnesota to New York. Rare snowfall was also reported in parts of Florida and Georgia, while cities like Chicago and Massachusetts faced disruptions, including delays to sports events.
