Indian cricket icon Rohit Sharma is set to receive one of the highest academic honours as Ajeenkya DY Patil University prepares to confer upon him an Honorary Doctorate of Letters (D.Litt.). The recognition will be awarded during the university’s convocation ceremony in Pune, highlighting Rohit’s extraordinary contributions to cricket, his leadership, and his influence on aspiring athletes across India.
Referred to as the “Hitman” of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma has achieved record-breaking centuries in limited-overs cricket and guided teams with composure under pressure. Beyond statistics, the university emphasised his discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship as values that inspire millions both on and off the field.
The D.Litt. degree is traditionally awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to society, culture, or a specific field of excellence. By honouring Rohit Sharma, the university celebrates not only sporting success but also the broader impact of sport as a source of leadership, national pride, and youth inspiration.
