A major accident was narrowly avoided at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai when the wings of Air India and IndiGo aircraft collided while taxiing. All passengers on board both flights were reported safe, according to a statement issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation DGCA. The incident occurred while the aircraft were moving for inspection and ground operations.
As per DGCA details, Air India flight AI 2732 was taxiing from the parking bay towards the runway for its departure to Coimbatore. At the same time, an IndiGo aircraft, flight 6E791, which had landed from Hyderabad, was moving towards the parking bay. During this process, the wings of the two aircraft made contact, resulting in partial damage. IndiGo confirmed that passengers were safely disembarked after parking. Air India shifted its aircraft for repairs and assured that alternative arrangements were being made to minimize inconvenience to passengers.
