India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train has been officially launched. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the state-of-the-art train at a ceremony held in Malda, West Bengal. During the event, the Prime Minister interacted with students traveling on the sleeper train and personally inspected the onboard facilities. The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will operate between Howrah in West Bengal and Guwahati (Kamakhya) in Assam.
The train is capable of achieving a maximum speed of 180 kmph. During final trial runs conducted between Kota and Nagda in the presence of the Commissioner of Railway Safety, the train successfully attained this top speed. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had earlier highlighted the train’s superior stability, noting that it remains vibration-free even at high speeds.
Comprising 16 coaches, the train is equipped with modern AC sleeper berths, an advanced suspension system, fire detection mechanisms, and CCTV surveillance. Designed to offer a travel experience comparable to air travel, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train has a minimum fare starting at ₹960. The train does not allow RAC or waiting list tickets, ensuring a more comfortable and hassle-free journey for passengers.
