Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has expressed interest in producing KC-390 Millennium transport aircraft in India. The company’s CEO Francisco Gomes said the firm is ready to establish a main production facility in the country if it secures an order for 80 aircraft from the Indian Air Force. He added that the India-based plant could also serve as an export hub for Asia-Pacific markets.
The KC-390 Millennium is known for its ability to operate from short runways and rapidly transport troops and military equipment. The aircraft is also capable of aerial refuelling. Embraer is additionally planning to set up an MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) facility in India. The Indian Air Force aims to acquire 80 medium transport aircraft to replace its ageing AN-32 and IL-76 fleet, with Airbus A400M and Lockheed Martin C-130J also competing for the contract.
