A suspected outbreak of diarrhea has been reported in the Srikakulam district headquarters, reportedly caused by contaminated drinking water. Currently, affected patients are undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital (GGH). According to officials, nearly 30 individuals have fallen ill. Several people experiencing vomiting and diarrhea since midnight were admitted to the hospital, while some were initially treated at private clinics before being shifted to RIMS for advanced medical care. The victims have been identified as residents of Dammala Veedhi, Golconda Revu, Medara Veedhi and nearby temple areas.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the causes behind the rise in diarrhea cases. Drinking water samples have reportedly been collected for testing. Meanwhile, criticism has emerged over the alleged delay in the official response. District Collector Swapnil Dinakar reviewed the situation and directed medical officials to maintain continuous monitoring and ensure the availability of necessary healthcare facilities.
In a tragic development, Mandala Suresh (42), who was undergoing treatment for diarrhea at GGH, succumbed to the illness. His death has cast a deep shadow of grief over his family. The bereaved family members have appealed to the government to extend financial and humanitarian support during this difficult time.
