Andhra Pradesh is set to create a new milestone in the clean energy sector with the launch of India’s largest green ammonia project in Kakinada. The state government had approved AM Green, a Greenco Group company, to set up a plant with an annual production capacity of 1 million metric tonnes of green ammonia. Notably, the project has moved from approval to execution within just one year.
The foundation stone for the project will be laid on Saturday by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. The Chief Minister will travel from Amaravati to Kakinada at 10:30 am and formally inaugurate the project at 11:20 am, followed by a public address highlighting its importance.
The plant will be developed over 495 acres with an investment of ₹13,000 crore and will produce green ammonia using renewable energy without carbon emissions. Unlike conventional ammonia made using coal, oil or natural gas, this production process is environmentally friendly. The old Nagarjuna Fertilizers plant is being converted into a green facility. The project is expected to create around 2,600 jobs and aims to begin production by the end of 2027.
