Amaravati:
After meeting NDA leaders at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu addressed the media and made strong remarks on the issue. He stated that the NDDB (National Dairy Development Board) report clearly indicated irregularities in ghee and pointed out that the CBI report nowhere explicitly concluded that there was “no adulteration.” Emphasizing that the matter goes beyond politics, he said it concerns the deeply held sentiments of crores of devotees. Recalling that Lord Venkateswara is the family deity of his household, the Chief Minister expressed deep anguish over what he described as sacrilege in the handling of Srivari prasadam during the previous regime.
Chandrababu Naidu criticized the earlier government for ignoring the CFTRI report in 2022, which had clearly warned of adulteration. He said that after coming to power, as part of a comprehensive clean-up, laddoo samples were sent to the NDDB, and the SIT report revealed that ghee had been prepared using chemicals and palm oil. He also alleged that incidents such as the burning of the Antarvedi chariot and the vandalism of the Ramateertham idol were not acted upon and instead false accusations were made against his party. The Chief Minister remarked that even the British respected traditions and accused the previous rulers of behaving in a manner worse than them.
Calling it a grave sin to distribute laddoos made with adulterated ghee to lakhs of devotees, Chandrababu Naidu said that over the past five years, devotees were left fearful even to visit Tirumala or consume the prasadam. He alleged that attempts are now being made to divert attention from the wrongdoing through counterattacks. Reiterating that no one responsible would be spared, he assured that the government would take all necessary steps to ensure strict punishment for the guilty. Protecting the sanctity of Tirumala and safeguarding devotees’ faith is a collective responsibility, he said, warning that history will not forgive those who have attacked the beliefs and trust of devotees.
