Dhaka: Tarique Rahman, son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and interim president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), emphasized that Bangladesh belongs to people of all faiths and regions, and everyone has a place in the country. He stated that he has a vision for a peaceful and united society. After 17 years, Tarique returned to Bangladesh with his family and upon landing at Dhaka International Airport, he touched the ground barefoot.
The 60-year-old Tarique had been residing in London for several years, overseeing BNP activities. He is considered a key contender for the Prime Minister post in the upcoming elections next year. From the airport, he went directly to a party rally set up on the July 36 Expressway, addressing thousands of supporters. In his speech, he highlighted that just as Bangladesh gained independence in 1971, the nation has once again achieved freedom in July 2024 and BNP will work tirelessly to build a better Bangladesh, including all communities in this journey.
After the rally, Tarique visited his mother, Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital. He shared his goal of transforming the country into a peaceful and inclusive society where everyone—men, women and children—can live safely and freely.
