Amid the ongoing LPG supply challenges, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasized the need to move towards alternative fuels such as piped natural gas (PNG) and increased electricity usage. Addressing officials during a review meeting on March 23, 2026, in Amaravati, the CM directed that every household in the state should be provided with PNG connections. Currently, 2.34 lakh PNG connections are available, but only 60,000 have been utilized, prompting the CM to urge full utilization and set a minimum of 10,000 new connections per district.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to write to the Union Minister regarding the restoration of the Srikakulam–Kakinada gas pipeline and issue immediate orders for the Andhra Pradesh city gas distribution network. He called for introducing a “Natural Gas Policy for Promotion in the Commercial Sector” at the upcoming cabinet meeting. Viewing the gas shortage as an opportunity for the electricity sector, he encouraged the use of induction stoves and electric cookers as alternatives. Priority distribution of LPG cylinders should be ensured for educational institutions, hospitals, anganwadis, canteens, and hotels. Officials reported supplying an average of 1.8 lakh cylinders daily over the past five days and maintaining a stock of 14,444 metric tonnes. The CM also reviewed crop loss caused by unseasonal rains and directed officials to submit a detailed report by March 26, considering the significant contribution of agriculture to GDP and production.
