Canada has temporarily halted its Start-up Visa (SUV) program as part of a broader overhaul of its business immigration pathways. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) confirmed that new work permit applications under the SUV program will no longer be accepted.
However, applicants who already hold a Start-up Visa work permit will be allowed to apply for extensions. Canadian authorities also indicated that a new business immigration scheme may be introduced as a pilot project in 2026. The upcoming program is expected to align with Canada’s long-term immigration goals and offer improved support for foreign entrepreneurs. Further details are likely to be announced in 2026.
