Ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli once planned to present a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, with Nitin Kakkar directing and Jr NTR playing the lead. However, reports suggest that the project may have been shelved, with no official update about its progress. Interestingly, another film on the same concept—featuring Aamir Khan and directed by Raj Kumar Hirani—has also been reportedly put on hold.
Sources close to Bollywood reveal that Aamir Khan felt the script lacked the humour and emotional connect needed for today’s audience. Despite multiple rewrites, both Aamir and Hirani agreed to pause the project. The Phalke family had earlier supported Hirani’s version while objecting to Rajamouli’s vision. With both projects stalled, it remains to be seen who will ultimately bring the story of India’s first filmmaker to life.
