Balakrishna’s much-awaited film Akhanda 2: Thaandavam, directed by Boyapati Sreenu, is all set to hit theatres on December 5. The film’s first part became a blockbuster after releasing in the same early December slot, making it a lucky window for the producers. Since then, many successful films like Animal, Hi Nanna, and Pushpa 2 have also utilized this time for big releases.
Surprisingly, actor Sharwanand’s upcoming film Biker is now scheduled for release just a day later — on December 6. The team dropped a powerful glimpse of the movie recently, revealing its release date and surprising both fans and trade circles.
Biker is an intense motor sports drama starring Sharwanand and Malvika Nair, with veteran actor Rajasekhar playing an important role. The film’s glimpse event took place last Saturday with the entire team in attendance.
In today’s competitive box office atmosphere, such close clashes are rare unless it’s during a festival season. Traditionally, Sankranthi used to be the preferred period for big-budget releases, while November and December were considered safer for smaller films. However, changing viewing trends and OTT-driven schedules have turned every week into a battleground for solo releases.
The Akhanda 2 and Biker clash appears riskier for Sharwanand, as Balakrishna and Boyapati’s combination already commands a strong fan base. Moreover, this marks their fourth collaboration, adding to the hype. Sharwanand, coming out of a dull phase, will face tough competition from Balayya’s mass following.
Industry insiders suggest that the clash could be influenced by OTT scheduling. Streaming platforms now purchase limited regional films each year and monitor rival OTT lineups closely. To ensure they don’t miss audience attention, platforms often push producers to release around the same window as competing titles. This makes filmmakers stick to tight timelines, even if it causes box office competition.
As a result, both Akhanda 2 and Biker will now battle it out in theatres this December, with OTT factors shaping their fates beyond the big screen.
