In a significant move, Telangana exhibitors have decided to transition from the traditional rental system to a percentage-based revenue model starting April 3, 2026. As part of this decision, 23 theatres across the state have opted for the new structure, aiming to bring more balance and sustainability to the exhibition sector. Under the revised terms, revenue sharing will be implemented in a phased manner, ensuring a fair distribution between producers and exhibitors.

According to the new model, theatres will operate on a percentage basis with 60% share in the first week, 50% in the second week, and 40% in the third week. This strategic shift is primarily intended to support the survival of single-screen theatres and prevent their closure amid rising operational challenges. The decision also aligns with a broader consensus emerging across the South Indian film industry, signaling a unified effort to stabilize theatrical business.
