The release of ‘Jana Nayagan’, starring Tamil actor Vijay, is likely to be delayed further. The Madras High Court heard detailed arguments for nearly three hours regarding the film’s release and censor certificate. After the hearing, the Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Mahindran Mohan Shrinivasan and Justice G. Arul Murugan reserved its verdict.
Earlier, a Single Bench directed the censor board to grant a U/A certificate to the film. Challenging this order, the CBFC approached the Division Bench. Appearing for the board, Additional Solicitor General A.R.L. Sundaresan argued that the CBFC was not given enough time to file a counter affidavit. He also said that the producers had not challenged the decision to send the film to a revision committee at the relevant time.
Senior advocate Satish Parasaran, appearing for the producers, stated that after deciding to grant a U/A certificate, the CBFC changed its stand based on the opinion of one member. He explained that the producers had already removed certain scenes as suggested, but the board was now asking them to add the same scenes again and remove them once more. He called this unreasonable and accused the CBFC of intentionally delaying the certification.
