The upcoming rural entertainer Idupu Kayitham, starring Priyadarshi and Naga Durga, has drawn attention since its title was announced. Directed by Vamsi Reddy Dondapati, the film initially faced online trolling over its Telangana dialect-based title, with some social media users questioning its meaning. The discussion has now intensified following the release of a song from the film, particularly over scenes depicting wedding celebrations.
Some viewers have criticised the song, arguing that the portrayal of alcohol being served at a wedding does not reflect Telangana traditions accurately. They have accused the makers of misrepresenting the region’s culture for promotional purposes. In response, filmmaker Venu Udugula strongly defended the film through a social media post. He said a community’s culture should be understood through its history, labour, art and struggles rather than judged by the plates and glasses shown on screen. He urged audiences to support films that honestly portray local lives and traditions, adding that viewers can criticise a film after watching it but should not define an entire region’s identity through a limited understanding of its culture.
