Among recent solid blockbusters, Mirai takes the top spot. Despite a limited budget, it delivered excellent quality and, even though there was an opportunity to increase ticket prices, it was kept at regular rates, which was a big plus. Surpassing ₹150 crores in such tough competition is no small feat. Even while OG and Kantara Chapter 1: A Legend continue to dominate the box office, Mirai is still enjoying good occupancy in its fourth week, with 3–4 shows daily at major centers.
While running so well in theaters, Mirai is also coming to OTT. It has been officially announced that it will stream on Jio Hotstar in four languages from October 10, meaning the theater window is just 28 days. Previously, when Hanuman achieved a big success, producers requested a 55-day gap before digital streaming, even on Hotstar. But Mirai is hitting digital screens in half that window. Insider info says this is because the agreements were made for four weeks due to anticipated competition from OG and Kantara.
Interestingly, War 2, released in August, hasn’t come to digital yet. It will stream on Netflix from October 9, strictly following the 8-week rule for Hindi multiplexes. In South India, there are no such conditions, so producers limit the window to just a month. Since Mirai, starring Teja Sajja, is coming to smart screens with such a short gap, viewer engagement is expected to be huge, with the potential for record-breaking numbers. The Hindi version will be released a little later.
