Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to introduce the 'Vande Mataram' Amendment Bill in Parliament tomorrow. The proposed legislation seeks to extend legal protection to Vande Mataram on par with the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana. If enacted, the amendment would bring Vande Mataram under the ambit of the National Honour Act, 1971, strengthening its legal status.
According to the proposal, insulting Vande Mataram or deliberately obstructing its rendition would be treated as an offence under the law. The bill proposes penalties of up to three years' imprisonment, a fine, or both for violations. The proposed amendment is expected to be discussed during the parliamentary proceedings.
