Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha reviewed the construction progress of community health centres and area hospitals under the Directorate of Secondary Healthcare (Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad). The meeting was held on Monday at the Rajiv Aarogyasri Trust office in Jubilee Hills. Health Department Principal Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu, TGMSIDC Managing Director Gaurav Uppal, District Coordinators of Hospital Services (DCHSs) and other senior officials attended the meeting. During the review, Gaurav Uppal informed the minister that construction work was progressing on several hospitals, medical colleges and nursing colleges across the state. Nine hospital buildings under the Secondary Healthcare Directorate have already been completed. Another 14 are expected to be completed by December, while 11 more are scheduled for completion by March 2027. Construction work on an additional 45 buildings is at various stages.
The minister directed officials to install all necessary medical equipment and furniture in the nine completed buildings and prepare them for public use. He also instructed them to immediately begin procurement for facilities expected to be completed in December and March, and to finish all ongoing construction projects under the directorate by the end of 2027. Stressing the importance of strengthening district-level healthcare, he said community health centres and area hospitals play a crucial role in the government's goal of providing medical services locally to at least 90 per cent of patients. He noted that around 15,000 healthcare positions, including doctors, nurses and technicians, had been filled over the past three years, including the recent recruitment of 1,616 specialist doctors. The minister urged DCHSs and hospital superintendents to ensure better patient care. He also advised officials to prepare for possible El Niño-related challenges and prevent disruptions to water and electricity supplies in hospitals.
