Russia-Ukraine War: Over 1,600 Drones Target Russia

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has intensified further, with Russian authorities reporting that more than 1,600 Ukrainian drones were intercepted during a major overnight attack. Around 450 drones were reportedly heading towards Moscow, where fires were reported at an oil refinery and other locations. Russian officials said the attacks took place on the final day of the country’s parliamentary elections and accused Ukraine of attempting to disrupt the voting process. Ukraine has not independently confirmed all of Russia’s claims about the scale of the attack.

The drone strikes coincided with Russia’s first parliamentary election since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. About 111 million people were eligible to vote, with the election also covering areas of Ukraine that Russia claims to have annexed, a move condemned by Ukraine and the European Union. Early results showed the Kremlin-aligned United Russia party leading the vote. Meanwhile, Ukrainian journalist Dmytro Gordon said he expected an important development for Ukraine within a week or two, though he did not disclose details, describing them as a military secret.
