Railways’ New Plan for Passenger Safety

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that Indian Railways is implementing multi-level safety measures to prevent fire accidents in train coaches, with passenger safety as the top priority. He said the immediate focus during emergencies is to save lives, provide medical assistance to injured passengers, and offer quick support to those in need. Every coach has been equipped with at least two fire extinguishers, while pantry cars have been provided with water mist fire extinguishers.

The Railway Ministry said passenger emergency communication facilities and the Rail Madad helpline 139 are available for quick reporting of fire incidents, medical emergencies, and other issues. It has also kept 177 accident relief trains, 100 breakdown cranes, and 170 medical relief units ready across the country for faster response during emergencies. Indian Railways continues to strengthen modern safety systems to ensure safer train journeys.
