The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has stated that India, a key driver of the global economy, has not experienced any noticeable impact from El Niño so far. However, it cautioned that a Super El Niño could lead to lower crop yields, higher inflation and a decline in household purchasing power. IMF Communications Director Julie Kozack clarified that none of these adverse effects are currently visible in India.
Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, Kozack said the IMF would release its revised growth projections for India in January after assessing the economic losses caused by weather-related factors. The IMF had recently projected India’s growth rate at 7 per cent for 2027 and 2028.
