A dramatic incident unfolded aboard the Sarkar Express travelling from Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu to Kakinada Port, when unidentified thieves allegedly stole gold ornaments from two women passengers during the early hours of Sunday. The theft took place in the S-3 and S-6 coaches near the Nallamada railway bridge on the outskirts of Bapatla. Following the incident, the train was reportedly brought to a halt after the emergency chain was pulled.
As the suspects attempted to flee across agricultural fields towards the Bapatla-Guntur road, railway police personnel on escort duty launched a pursuit. Officials stated that warning fire was opened and nine rounds were reportedly discharged during the operation. Police teams have intensified search operations in the Appikatla and Battipudi areas, while district authorities remain on high alert. Preliminary investigations indicate that as many as six individuals may have been involved in the crime.
