KTR Slams Government Over Adilabad RIMS Fire

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao expressed deep shock and anguish over the fire at the Special Newborn Care Unit of RIMS Hospital in Adilabad. Describing the deaths of two infants as deeply distressing, he urged authorities to provide the best possible treatment to the children receiving care and continuously monitor their health. KTR alleged that the incident was the result of the Congress government’s failure and accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of weakening the state’s public healthcare system. He demanded that the Chief Minister take responsibility for the tragedy. KTR also claimed that BRS leaders from the district had repeatedly raised concerns about conditions at RIMS, but that the government had failed to address them. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire and whether any safety lapses contributed to the incident.

KTR called for immediate inspections by experts of children’s wards and intensive care units in RIMS Adilabad and government hospitals across Telangana. He urged the government to strengthen safety measures to prevent similar incidents and provide support to the bereaved families. On behalf of the BRS, he demanded an ex-gratia payment of ₹25 lakh to each affected family. Preliminary information suggests that an electrical short circuit involving an air-conditioning unit may have triggered the fire, though the cause has not yet been conclusively established. Hospital staff and emergency teams evacuated the infants, and those requiring further care were shifted to other hospitals. The state government has ordered an inquiry and directed officials to strengthen safety arrangements in hospitals.
