Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh has launched a fresh attack on the Narendra Modi government, alleging that the country's unemployment crisis has worsened due to its economic and employment policies. Sharing reports that hiring by 11 major Sensex-30 companies declined by 27% in the 2025–26 financial year compared with the previous year, he claimed the slowdown reflects deeper weaknesses in the economy and has affected young job seekers the most.
Ramesh argued that if recruitment has fallen significantly even among India's largest companies, the situation is likely to be more challenging for the MSME sector. Taking a swipe at the Prime Minister's recent social media activity, he said young people cannot be satisfied with online reels alone and need meaningful employment opportunities. He urged the government to acknowledge the unemployment challenge and introduce effective measures to boost job creation.
