Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated every year on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi. In 2026, the festival falls on Monday, September 14. As preparations for the nine-day Ganesh festivities begin across the country, devotees are getting ready to welcome Lord Ganesha into their homes and community pandals. Traditionally, different types of food items are offered as naivedyam during the festival.
According to traditional astrological beliefs shared by Machiraju Kiran Kumar, offering specific prasadams to Lord Ganesha is associated with different desired benefits. Modakams, including laddus and undrallu, are believed to bring happiness. Puffed corn or sorghum is traditionally associated with mental peace, while beaten rice is believed to help ease difficulties in family life. Sattu flour is associated with confidence, sugarcane with relief from the intensity of karmic effects, and coconut with financial stability and improved income opportunities. Fruits are traditionally associated with progress in career and business, sesame with relief from Shani-related difficulties, ragi rice with gradually reducing debt, and wood apple with success in legal matters and property-related gains.
Note: The information about the benefits associated with these offerings is based on traditional religious and astrological beliefs. These claims do not have established modern scientific evidence. Devotees may follow these traditions according to their personal faith and local customs.
