Food Safety Raids in Hyderabad: 8 Restaurant Licences Cancelled

Telangana Food and Essential Drugs Authority (TG SAFE) conducted extensive inspections at 15 prominent restaurants and hotels across Hyderabad on Thursday, uncovering several serious food safety and hygiene violations. Eight special teams carried out the inspections in the Core Urban Region. Officials cancelled the licences of eight establishments and sealed Lucky Restaurant in Bachupally for operating without an FSSAI licence and maintaining highly unhygienic premises, where cockroaches were reportedly found.

During the inspections, Aroma Multicuisine Restaurant in Gachibowli was found with food items reportedly damaged by rats, cats roaming inside the premises and expired food products. At Pakwan Grand Restaurant in Raidurg, officials found 1,170 bags of expired rice, 45 kg of unlabelled noodles and rotten eggs. Godavari Ghumaghumalu in Hafeezpet had insect-infested vegetables and an unhygienic kitchen, while Sri Krishna Family Dhaba in Gachibowli was found with workers chewing gutka and mouldy food items. Sri Sai Mess-Babayi Hotel in Kondapur reportedly had rotten vegetables, flies and cockroaches. Aditya Restaurant and Bar in Safilguda had damaged flooring, peeling walls and rotten vegetables. Spicy Hub/Green Treat in Kothapet had foul-smelling refrigerators and expired food items. Vaishnavi Darshini in Begumbazar was found storing mouldy food, chemicals and food products together, besides inadequate lighting.

TG SAFE Commissioner Avinash Mahanti said show-cause notices were also issued to Asonio Indian Kitchen in Puppalaguda. Improvement notices were served to five other establishments, including Girlfriend Mandi in Gachibowli, Box 8 Mojo Pizza in Yousufguda, Seasons Express in Hitech City, Yummy B in Sainikpuri and JMJE Boys Hostel in Gundimaisamma. Officials said follow-up inspections would be conducted and further legal action would be taken if the violations continue. Sixteen food samples suspected of adulteration were collected and sent to laboratories for testing.
