Four members of a family were hospitalised after consuming a curry made with toxic leaves and pulses in Yerrampalem village of Gandeepalli mandal, Kakinada district. The family, originally from Hyderabad, had come to their native place for a local temple festival. The incident occurred after they reportedly prepared and consumed a dish made from Umetta leaves, based on a recipe seen on Instagram.
Within hours of eating the meal, the individuals began experiencing symptoms of intoxication and fell unconscious. They were first taken to a government hospital in Peddapuram and later shifted to Kakinada Government General Hospital for better treatment. Doctors confirmed that all patients are recovering. Two children who did not consume the dish remained safe. Police have not registered a case as no complaint was filed.
