In Vedic astrology, Elinati Shani, also referred to as Sade Sati, is traditionally associated with the period when Saturn transits the 12th, first and second signs from a person’s Moon sign. Saturn is believed to remain in each sign for approximately two and a half years, making the total period about seven and a half years. Astrologers traditionally associate this phase with delays, responsibilities, financial pressures and other challenges, although interpretations vary depending on an individual horoscope.
Astrologers also point out that Saturn’s influence is not necessarily considered entirely negative. According to these traditional beliefs, important life events such as marriage, employment or construction of a house may still take place during this period, although they may involve additional responsibilities or expenses. Suggested spiritual practices include reciting Vishnu Sahasranama, Sundara Kanda and Aditya Hridayam, visiting temples or pilgrimage sites, observing vows and praying to Lord Shiva. Other traditional practices include lighting a sesame-oil lamp on Saturdays, offering food to crows and other animals, donating food to people in need, feeding birds and ants, and making charitable offerings. These are religious and astrological traditions rather than scientifically established methods for changing outcomes.
