A tragic incident in Bengaluru has highlighted the emotional and psychological challenges faced by elderly couples dealing with health issues and dependency. Nandan Prasad (83) and his wife Sumitra Devi (77), originally from Bihar, were living with their son and family in an apartment in Chokkanahalli. Sumitra Devi suffered from vision and hearing impairments, while Nandan Prasad had been battling heart-related ailments. According to police sources, he had been deeply worried about who would care for his wife after his death.
Investigators believe that Nandan Prasad, overwhelmed by concerns about his wife's future, allegedly strangled her late Monday night before taking his own life. At the time of the incident, the couple’s daughter-in-law and grandson were away in Bihar for a family wedding, while their son and granddaughter were in another room of the house. The tragedy came to light on Tuesday morning when their son discovered the bodies after they failed to come out of their room. Based on a complaint filed by the family, Sampigehalli police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
