Controversy Over Piduguralla Medical College Sea

A political controversy has emerged over the allocation of MBBS seats to the Piduguralla Government Medical College in Andhra Pradesh. Opposition leaders allege that while the state government announced approval for 100 MBBS seats, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted permission for only 50 seats for the 2026–27 academic year. They claim the reduction was due to inadequate infrastructure, including teaching hospital facilities, hostels, and other essential requirements needed for a 100-seat intake.

The opposition further alleged that construction of the medical college, initiated during the previous Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy government, slowed after the change in administration. It also compared Andhra Pradesh with smaller states such as Chhattisgarh, which are expanding government medical education. The opposition accused the government of reducing opportunities for aspiring medical students and urged it to strengthen public medical education and infrastructure.
