China has alleged that foreign intelligence agencies are using marine animals such as turtles and fish equipped with sensors to collect sensitive maritime information from its coastal waters. According to a social media post by China's Ministry of State Security, these devices are being attached to sea creatures to monitor ocean conditions and gather strategic data. Beijing claimed that international spy networks are increasingly relying on advanced technologies to obtain classified marine information.
The ministry stated that several turtles and fish carrying sensor equipment were recently identified in Chinese coastal regions. These devices were reportedly collecting data related to water temperature, salinity, ocean currents, and other environmental conditions before transmitting the information abroad through satellite networks. China also accused foreign groups of deploying solar-powered wave gliders and surveillance equipment on cargo vessels to monitor coastal activities. Citing concerns over national security, authorities have ordered stricter inspections of incoming ships and equipment, while fishermen have been urged to report any suspicious objects found at sea.
