Chandrababu Makes Key Announcement on Visakhapatnam Water Issue

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said steps are being taken to ensure adequate water availability for Visakhapatnam through Godavari waters brought via the Polavaram Left Main Canal. He said measures would be taken to ensure that the city does not face a water shortage from next year. The canal has already begun carrying Godavari water to North Andhra, with plans to provide 23.44 TMC of water for drinking, irrigation and industrial requirements in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts.

Concerns over drinking-water availability in Visakhapatnam have been raised amid pressure on the city’s existing water sources. Recent reports have highlighted the need to strengthen the city’s long-term water security through additional sources and storage capacity. The state government is looking to use Godavari water through the Polavaram canal as part of its long-term strategy to address the region’s water requirements.
