Bihar Teacher Turns Boat Into School to Keep Flood-Hit Students Learning

Heavy rains have been lashing Bihar for the past week, leaving several villages inundated and disrupting normal life. With floodwaters preventing many students from attending school, Mohammad Saheb, a teacher from Raghunathpur in Katihar district, came up with an innovative solution. With the consent of parents, he converted a boat into a mobile classroom and takes students from flood-affected areas to locations where the water level is relatively low. Classes are conducted on the boat before the students are safely dropped back home.

Apart from regular lessons, Mohammad Saheb is also conducting coaching classes for the students on the boat. He said he took the initiative with the intention of ensuring that the surrounding circumstances do not become a barrier to education. To ensure safety and effective learning, students are taught in batches rather than bringing a large number of children onto the boat at once. His initiative has drawn attention as an inspiring example of keeping education going during a natural disaster.
