American entrepreneur Elon Musk has alleged that some business leaders are preventing Starlink from entering the Indian market in an attempt to protect their monopolies. He made the remarks while responding to a post on X claiming that more than 11,000 villages in India still lack mobile coverage.
The post, shared by the handle Dodgedesigner, claimed that 11,256 villages did not have 4G coverage as of May 2026 and argued that Starlink services are needed to improve connectivity for Indians. Musk responded that some business leaders were allegedly keeping Starlink out to protect their existing monopolies and described the situation as unfair to the people of India.
Meanwhile, Musk-led SpaceX has been preparing to launch Starlink services in India. The comments have gained attention as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to officially inaugurate the India Mobile Congress (IMC) on Thursday, bringing renewed focus to connectivity and satellite-based internet services.
