A growing trend in Tollywood of relying more on OTT deals than building a strong theatrical presence is becoming a topic of discussion in the industry. Some films are reportedly being released in theatres without adequate promotions or creating enough anticipation among audiences. The lack of pre-release promotional activities and limited buzz around these movies can result in a weak response from viewers on the opening day.
However, there is an opinion that some producers are opting for such releases because they have already secured OTT agreements. Even if there are limited expectations from theatrical collections, releasing a film within the agreed digital-release window may offer short-term benefits. However, industry observers argue that relying heavily on OTT deals could have long-term consequences for a film’s performance, as well as the market value of its lead actors and the confidence of their fan base.
